Bill Rock who is remembered by Barry Shipp in the Dress Fabrics department

Comments about this page

  • Mr Rock was one of the two salesmen in Dress Fabrics and they specialised in woollen fabrics and suiting – all 54″ and on bolts. The ladies/girls in the team served customers with printed dress fabrics – much lighter and on rolls.
I remember Mr Rock as being very cheeky with any female – customer or member of staff!
The females of the team all made their own clothes but rarely ventured into the opposition – Thodays. When I visit Cambridge I still expect to see Thodays on St Andrews Street, it was such a feature and always busy.
