The Grand Opening of John Lewis At Home Newbury

Customers immediately embrace their new At Home store in the town

Challenges overcome

John Lewis at home Newbury opened on the 20th April 2012, becoming the first town centre branch to do so. Initial customer response was highly positive; many had been waiting for a John Lewis in the local vicinity for a long time. Customer anticipation was evident from the large queues gathering outside up to an hour before opening. Working within an established development like Parkway, and within an actual town centre, presented its own logistical challenges, but as can be seen in the pictures, these were clearly overcome in time for the opening day.

Since Opening

Despite only opening two years ago, John Lewis At Home Newbury has enjoyed considerable local success, and together with the Waitrose in the town, has helped to vastly improve and increase awareness of the Partnership in the area. Furthermore, the Newbury At Home is proof that such a platform could function within a town centre environment, and as such has shaped future Partnership plans for the new format.
