Mrs Beatrice Lewis

Mrs Beatrice Lewis

A pre First World War graduate from Oxford, Sarah Beatrice Hunter joined Peter Jones in 1922 and within a year had both married Spedan and become a Director of Peter Jones Limited! Subsequently she became Deputy Chairman and served as a Director of John Lewis Partnership Limited from 1929-51.

She wholeheartedly supported Spedan in developing the Partnership and would have become Chairman had he died in office. She died in 1953.

  • I’m not sure if she was an Executive Committee member, but we do know that Mrs Beatrice Lewis did make a one off cash payment on the 31st May 1927 to the Pioneer Health Centre for £20, so she was involved in someway. Her account ledger is held at the John Lewis Partnership Archive in Cookham.

  • Do you know if she was a member of the Executive Committee of a charity called the Pioneer Health Centre in 1927? If so can you tell me anything about her involvement?
