Mrs Beatrice Lewis
A pre First World War graduate from Oxford, Sarah Beatrice Hunter joined Peter Jones in 1922 and within a year had both married Spedan and become a Director of Peter Jones Limited! Subsequently she became Deputy Chairman and served as a Director of John Lewis Partnership Limited from 1929-51.
She wholeheartedly supported Spedan in developing the Partnership and would have become Chairman had he died in office. She died in 1953.

I’m not sure if she was an Executive Committee member, but we do know that Mrs Beatrice Lewis did make a one off cash payment on the 31st May 1927 to the Pioneer Health Centre for £20, so she was involved in someway. Her account ledger is held at the John Lewis Partnership Archive in Cookham.
Do you know if she was a member of the Executive Committee of a charity called the Pioneer Health Centre in 1927? If so can you tell me anything about her involvement?
