Annual Outing

Trewin Brothers staff on annual outing Chorleywood area 1913
JLP Archive Collection

Arthur and Henry Trewin were keen to provide a happy working environment for their staff.  They organised an annual outing.  In 1913 the shop staff went to Chorleywood for the day.

  • Like you Maureen, I remember all of the outings I went on during my 16yrs at Trewins.  What fun they were.

Everything from visits to wonderful gardens, trips to the theatre in London and remember Sonning Mill?
Visits to Brownsea, Alton Towers and not forgetting the time I was on the retirement committee and all of those Retired Partners summer outings.  Great memories.

  • As I was looking at this picture I started to think about all the outings I had been on whilst I worked for Trewins.  There were so many; but the one that stands out was the first time we went on the shuttle to France.  Our SEO Iris Mosley organised the trip shortly after the Channel Tunnel opened.

We went to Le Touquet for the day at the cost of ten pounds each.  Five coaches left Watford very early on a Sunday morning to travel to Ashford to board the shuttle to France.  I think it was a very exciting day trying something so different and new thanks to the partnership

  • There are a large number of ladies but few men – in fact the two older men in the centre of the picture are Henry and Arthur Trewin who went with their staff on the outing.
