Kinghams Traveller
From the private collection of June W Smith
My father was Vernon William Gaines, usually called Bill. He represented Kinghams, as “commercial traveller”, throughout the war years; following his move down south from Yorkshire, where he had worked previously for the Co-op in Saltburn.
He lodged in Blake House, Loates Lane, Watford whilst in the Watford area. Many friends were made from the grocers shops he visited up and down the country.

Hi June,
Do you know anything about Blake House in Loates Lane. It was owned by a photographer, Frederick Downer, who worked for the Watford Observer in the 1880s.
Kind regards
