From Trewins to John Lewis

On the 18th September 2001, Trewins became the latest branch to become a John Lewis branch. The move was seen as a chance to capitalise on another big change for the branch, with Sunday opening now being introduced.

Seen as a way to cement the John Lewis brand in the Watford area, Gordon Stenton, Managing Director at the time, told The Gazette “It‘s surprising how many customers hadn’t previously made the connection between Trewins and John Lewis, so the change of name will enable us to make better use of the brand”

Although many locals were sad to see the name Trewins disappear from the Watford area, Partners at the branch sent it off in style with a party to bid the name farewell!
