Memories of High Wycombe: The 'Hard Hatters'

High Wycombe seemed like a million miles away from my base store in Reading. When I started in 1988 I’d already done 12 years service in Reading so it was like leaving my home for the first time.

We were called the ‘Hard Hatters’ after the head gear we had to wear on the shop floor while the builders worked above us in the ceiling!! For a whole day we had to borrow the toilets in Asda. Fun times!!

The night before we opened I found myself in the men’s customer toilets having to grout the tiles… just to get the shop ready to open!! What a memory!!
