Six acre sports ground

Whilst some John Lewis stores suffered greatly at the hands of German bombing, the prospects of GH Lee remained bright. Some stores around the country would require entire rebuilding. But for GH Lee, it was a vastly different story. In May 1945, Bradstones – a sports ground of six acres, was acquired by the John Lewis Partnership, as land that had belonged to George Henry Lee. Clearly, plans for the department store were being made for the future. Indicated by the acquisition of sports facilities, GH Lee was being gradually immersed in the ethos of the Partnership, that had always extended past simple working hours.
