Towards the present day

The Gazette of the 31st May 2003 boldly announces the completion of the refurbishment

Refurbishments shaping the Edinburgh landscape

John Lewis Edinburgh underwent another major renovation in 2002. Started in September 2001 the £25,000,000 project involved the revamping of the ground floor of the store. In October 2002, 7 day opening was introduced in time for Christmas, and renovation works were eventually completed in the spring of 2003. The revamping of the store had occurred at the right time. In November 2002, a £100 million leisure complex and office development was opened opposite John Lewis. Thus John Lewis Edinburgh spearheaded the modernisation of Edinburgh city centre.

An unqualified success

The fast-track refurbishment of John Lewis Edinburgh took just 20 months to complete. By 2003, all work had been completed, and the brand new John Lewis Edinburgh had been unveiled to delighted customers. The store now boasted the largest fashion floor in Scotland, a new cafe and an espresso bar. Equipped with these new features, the store was placed in a perfect position to prosper, something that it has dutifully done with aplomb ever since, attracting customers far and wide across Scotland.
