Closure

The lorries arrive to transfer goods from John Lewis Bristol to the soon to be opened John Lewis Cribbs Causeway

Preparations for the transformation

Finally, in the last week of March 1998, the time had come to move out. Although just a 12 mile journey between the city centre and Cribbs Causeway, getting all the stock across would take six articulated lorries and five demountable lorries 120 journeys combined, meaning a total of 1440 miles covered!

Shut-up shop

There was a crucial deadline that had to be met. All stock had to be in place at Cribbs Causeway by 6pm on Friday 27th March. John Lewis Bristol’s last day of trading was Wednesday 25th, giving everyone involved just 48 hours to get everything shifted! On Friday 27th March 1998, it closed its doors for the last time, handing the baton to John Lewis Cribbs Causeway which was now ready for opening.
