The Grand Opening of John Lewis Cardiff

The magnificant glass shard, slicing through the Cardiff landscape

Enter The Dragon

John Lewis Cardiff opened its doors to customers on the 24th September 2009. As the anchor shop of the St David’s 2 project, the opening signalled the beginning of great things for Cardiff as a city. The branch was equipped with the very latest facilities in modern retail, the shop was the first to open with customer access points to johnlewis.com. It showcased the latest concepts from John Lewis, including a next generation fashion floor, a new ‘visual hierarchy’ for graphics and signage (in both Welsh and English) and the largest Espresso Bar in the business.

Fantastic figures

Despite opening in the midst of a recession, John Lewis Cardiff smashed its forecasts in the opening days. Partners in the Place To Eat and the Espresso Bar helped customers get through almost 300 hundred scones, 100 welsh cakes and 3000 hot drinks in just one day. Sales on the first day included 21 large-screen TVs, and a £3,000 fridge. Despite the fact that it had been a long opening day, Partners celebrated long after closing, in the true Partnership style!
