The grand opening of Bainbridges, Eldon Square
Brand new Bainbridges
Building, which began in 1973, was completed in 1976. On Sunday 17th October to late on Monday 18th, stock was transferred from one store to the other. Such an endeavour was undertaken with absolute military precision. Finally, on Tuesday 19th October, the brand new Bainbridges opened its doors to customers. The new shopping centre in which the department store was located was modern and spacious, and offered customers a plethora of exciting retail experiences.
Unlocking potential
Eldon Square would set the Partnership up in the North-East of England for the forseeable future. The grandoise nature of the store and the shopping centre gave the Partnership the opportunity to appeal to customers from a wide base. Such was the coverage that the centre provided that it allowed the Partnership to undertake future development projects in this area of England.
