Trewins ballroom dancing team 1954
JLP Archive Collection

The Partnership Ball took place annually at the Royal Albert Hall with shops from across the Partnership entering a team of three couples.  In 1954 The Trewins team came third and were complimented in the Gazette.

“Trewin Brothers were the only team consisting of couples who had not danced in the finals before and did well to gain third place.  They deserve a special word of praise for the marked improvement they had made between the heats and the final”.

  • The I Lawrie is indeed the same Ian Lawrie(my father) that ended his career as MD of Jessops,

  • Audrey Leatherbarrow is now Mrs Audrey Simmons.  She remembers the Ball clearly; and in particular her partner Mr Eric Neal.   Audrey worked as a manager in the Accounts Department and the other ladies (as David remembers) were also in the accounting team and Eric worked in the Bakery.  What a handsome couple!

  • The Mr I Lawrie in the picture is almost certainly Ian Lawrie who finished his Partnership career as Managing Director of Jessops of Nottingham (now John Lewis.)   I remember attending a Partnership ball at the Albert Hall in about 1959, which was about the time they were discontinued.  I recall Miss Rowley was a cashier in the main cash desk.
