Mr Spilman left Trewin Brothers after 18 years where he had been General Manager (todays equivalent being Managing Director,) to become a Chairman of the Committees for Communication.  He retired early October 1969 and a party was held in the foyer of the John Lewis restaurant on the 8 October 1969, where he was presented with a gift of a Quashqai carpet by Sir Bernard Miller.  Sadly, he died on the 19 October 1969 and the Central Council stood in his memory on the 20 October 1969.  Mrs Spilman died in 1989.
