Grand Opening

John Lewis has opened its first shop in Essex, as the new-build Chelmsford department store welcomed its first shoppers on 29th October 2016.

The 90,000sq ft shop is the anchor store of the town’s £150m Bond Street development. It was officially opened at 9.30am, when Chelmsford Partner Stephanie Shields joined Branch Manager Laura Rawstron to cut the ribbon.

‘Today marks a very exciting time for John Lewis and we’re delighted to open the doors to our first shop in Essex,’ says Laura. ‘It’s one of our most modern shops to date and brings together the very best of John Lewis’s products and services.’

The branch represents an £18m investment from John Lewis and Laura says it’s down to the energy of the team that it looks so amazing. ‘Our new team of Partners has worked incredibly hard to get us to this stage and I’m very proud of everyone involved.’

‘Together with the Bond Street development, this John Lewis shop will create a new retail and leisure offer that ensures Chelmsford has something for everyone.’

The shop’s interior design plays homage to the city’s heritage as the birthplace of radio through its design and Visual Merchandising schemes.

And the outdoor location of the Bond Street development, created around a lake, features 25 flagship shops, seven riverside restaurants, a cinema, open space, and a basement car park.
