Need to evolve

In its prime position in the West End and increasingly appealing to a global audience, it has proved vitally important to keep John Lewis Oxford Street at the sharp end of retailing.

Genesis

For this reason, there have been multiple projects undertaken at the store. The first of these was Project Genesis. In 2001, the ground and first floors were dramatically refurbished. New fashion accessories, perfumery, menswear and women’s fashion departments were opened, to much critical acclaim. In phase two of the project, new kitchenware and electrical departments in the basement of the shop were completed by 2002.

Beacon

By 2007, Project Beacon had been completed at John Lewis Oxford Street. Part of the project had involved a complete refit of the escalators at the shop. This element had been completed by November 2006, just in time for Christmas. The second element was the foodhall, which was opened in the basement of the department store in 2007.
