The lighting department has always offered a large selection of both modern and traditional lighting.  It was even possible before the fire regulations act, introduced in 1988, to have lampshades made with your own fabric to ensure a perfect match with your furnishings.

I believe my mother worked in this department in the early 1960's.  Her name was Rosemary Read, and worked with a lady called Sylvia Brewer.  My father, Eddie Jones. also worked in the store.  In DIY & China and Glass.

I remember Rosemary and Eddie well.  I also worked in the lighting department with Sylvia and Ann Mckechnie.

I am sure I went to a hall, to watch children dance, where Rosemary had a little dance class.

Oh, the good old days.    Sheila Shayler (Sheila Flynn)
