Conception and Construction
The prototype At Home store
The first store of the new format was to be in Poole, in a former Courts unit. This unit was to be found in Poole Commerce Centre, a shopping centre on the edge of the town. The shop would feature a coffee shop and would offer multi-channel shopping through the provision of computer access to all customers, allowing access to the full John Lewis range. If this trial went well, it was conceivable that the concept could be rolled out to other suitable locations that the Partnership was in the process of identifying.
Cracking on with construction
It was announced in August that the Poole branch was to open on the 22nd October 2009. This would mean that the entire store would have been conceived, built and opened in only ten months. Again, should everything be completed on time, this would set the standard and precedent for future projects.
