A winning blend

‘John Lewis High Wycombe, Furnishing and Leisure’, was opened to expectant customers on the 18th October 1988. The whole site was constructed in just over a year, and offered a winning blend of John Lewis quality coupled with convenience and accessibility. Excitement at the opening of the new store was clear. The 600 space customer car-park was nearly full, only an hour after opening. The store remained packed with intrigued shoppers for the entire opening day. Despite this, High Wycombe Partners made sure that they celebrated in style after the store closed. Needless to say, they must have slept well that night!

Largest stock ranges outside of London

The department store had its own warehouse, guaranteeing immediate stock availability. The Place To Eat cafe catered for customers eating and drinking needs, supplying evening meals for those who had travelled for some way. Despite not stocking fashion, High Wycombe offered the largest range of selected stock outside of London, including an expansive furniture department, occupying the vast majority of the selling space. There was also a generous sports department. This was certainly a John Lewis store, but it was undoubtedly different.
