Decadence after a decade

In March 2009, a £20 million refurbishment programme was launched to coincide with 10 years of opening. Key parts of the project involved the conversion of the basement into retail space, including a foodhall, and changes to womenswear. Electrical and fitted kitchens were also moved to the basement.

John Lewis Foodhall from Waitrose

As part of the project, basement space that had acted as the warehouse before the move to Crossways was converted into John Lewis Foodhall from Waitrose. Suddenly, everything from fresh fruit and fine wines, through to fitted kitchens were available. With over 8500 products on sale, there was plenty of choice. But it was not a supermarket, some of the items on sale, like balsamic vinegar with gold leaf, were incredibly exclusive!
