Interbranch Champions
At the Inter-branch One-Day Horse-Riding Event in Melton Mowbray held in September 1998, Susan Day and Emma Bew celebrated lifting the Interbranch trophy for John Lewis Welwyn. The Inter-branch champions beat off stiff competition from a number of other stores, including John Lewis Wycombe, Cribbs Causeway and Cole Brothers, in order to obtain the trophy. Weleyn Partner Susan also came third in the Victric Ludorum award, the much desired honour identifying the top three most successful riders from the day’s three events.

'Like Riding a Motorbike'
The coverted Inter-branch trophy was more than a just reward for the girl's hard work, both combining a love for horses with their jobs. In fact the strength of the competition, representing such a multitude of branches, went some way to demonstrating their considerable talent. The event that day was covered in the Gazette by Tim Danton. His most memorable moment...being told that riding a horse was like riding a motor bike.
