John Pound and Co was a London based company which specialised in the manufacture and retail of high quality trunks and packing cases. Started in 1823, the company steadily grew in size and by 1871 operated out of five London shops. One of these was located on Oxford Street, not far from John Lewis. Other branches could be found in Piccadilly, Regents Street, Tottenham Court Road and Brompton Road. By the turn of the 20th century, John Pound also made and sold purses, hat cases and pen cases. They were the biggest company of their kind at this time. Founder John Pound (1829-1915) was a member of the Corporation of London, eventually becoming Lord Mayor in 1904.
