Conception and Construction

A joint venture

In the Gazette of the 12th August 2011, plans were announced to produce a brand new John Lewis At Home store with a difference. For John Lewis At Home Ipswich would be combined with a Waitrose store, both of whom would share the same entrance. It would be the first time that both retail elements of the Partnership would be opened next door to each other.

The two shops would be part of a multi-million pound regeneration scheme, and would satisfy the Partnership’s long held desire to have a presence in Ipswich. Construction started soon afterwards, with the aim to open this new joint venture at the back end of 2012. If the project was a success, then it could act as a blueprint for similar combined projects in the future.
